First Day of School 2017
Summer is officially over. It is always fun while it lasts, but I think we were all ready to get back into the swing of things, myself included.
Bailey’s teacher is on maternity leave so she is starting the year with a long-term sub! She missed school and is so excited to be back!
Andrew also started preschool this fall. Once we met his teachers and he saw his classroom, all his fears were gone. He has done so well this first week and we are so proud of him.
Grant is thinking “Oh no, what’s with this day care thing, anyway?!”
Heading off to get into the magic school bus! aka BJ’s car.
Below are the “real” photos of Andrew before his first day. He was so excited for school. Just didn’t want to take any pictures…go figure. We think they are funny. Retakes were offered later in the week.
It’s Summer–Space Week!
With the big lead up to the solar eclipse, we had to have a space week.
We became astronauts!
We learned why the moon has creators and looks like there is a face on it by throwing balls at our moon made of toothpaste.
We shot off fizz rockets!
We learned about phases of the moon with Oreos!
We made letter rockets. Andrew did this complete project all on his OWN!
August 21st, 2017! We were lucky enough to be in the path of totality. Schools were cancelled and most employees were given a half day (BJ encluded! yay!).
With our glasses we were able to see all these phases. I was skeptical of the hype, but I stand corrected…It was cool.
The morning of, getting ready!
Our sweet set up! We came out first and got the little pools to keep the kids entertained while BJ and I could watch, then another family came, and another and another! Before we knew it, we were having a block party! oops!
The whole thing was pretty neat. There was a huge drop in temperature to go along with the darkness. Photos don’t do it any justice. Bailey loved it and asked if there could be another one for the next day! It scared Andrew a little. We did the whole flashlight, Earth, Moon experiment ahead of time and I think Bailey understood, but he didn’t. He left the party and came inside! Silly boy!

Grant–5 months
What you are up to:
- The first two weeks of this month was HARD on you. 5 days after your 4 month check up you headed back to the doctor with a 103 degree temperature. They couldn’t find anything wrong, so said it was teething (even though they also said teething couldn’t cause a high fever….humm.). But it messed up day AND night time sleeping.
- Then we left on your first vacation! You got back on track during the day, but never at night. You would wake every 2 hours some nights and every 4 on others.
- Once we were back home, we are slowly getting there. You currently wake up once or twice, but will take your pacifier and go back to sleep. You still start swaddled, but rarely last more than 5 minutes with your arms in it. It was so frustrating because we know you can do it, but it is much improved from two weeks ago!
- You have finally gotten the hang of eating oatmeal but dislike any veggie we try. (We stopped for a while because we thought it might be part of the sleeping problem). So far you have tried sweet potatoes, peas and green beans.
- You ROLL! both directions, but haven’t put it together continuously.
- You love being upright: supported sitting, exersaucer, standing on someone’s lap or being pushed around in the stroller.
- In the past week you have moved to the 4 hour feeding schedule, with two naps (9-11 and 1-3).
- Bailey and Andrew are still your favorite people….even though they get super close and tickle you ALL THE TIME!
- You start daycare tomorrow =(. sniff sniff
- Your favorite toys are the activity cube, a circular rattle that spins and your set of keys.
- I would still call you an easy baby. You totally enjoy watching all the commotion take place around you.
- You wear 6 and 9 month clothes.
- People comment on your blue eyes and LONG eyelashes. You actually look A LOT like Bailey (just much lighter complexion and hair color!).
You can compare how the two older kids play with him yourself!

Surprise Treasure Hunt!
When we got home from Florida the kids had a package waiting for them! They were super excited and then opened it to find a Treasure Hunt from Aunt Jan!
Each one had to do 10-15 things and take a picture to receive their prize at the end!
Here are some of the photos…
What fun!
